  Sydney "Syd" Ulriksen, age 88, of Merlin, Oregon, died September 24, 2017, at his home.

  Syd was born in Oakland, California, on July 26, 1929, to Petter and Lillian Ulriksen. After finishing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1946, and was honorably discharged in February 1948. Syd attended City College of San Francisco for two years before becoming a traffic engineer for the State of California, the Division of Highways, later becoming Cal-Trans. He worked for 38 years before retiring in 1986.

  In 1952, Syd married Paula Stern. They had two sons, Mark and Jeffrey. They were subsequently divorced. In 1971, Syd married Barbara in Tiburon, California, and they were married 46 years.

  Syd lived in Petaluma, California; Sunriver, Oregon; and Merlin, Oregon, for the last 20 years.

  Syd was a member of California Lodge No. 1 F & AM for 55 years. He was also a member of the Quarter Century Club of Cal-Trans.

  Syd was an avid duck hunter, along with his faithful lab, Sabre, an excellent retriever. Syd also loved fishing. He spent many hours on Oregon's best lakes, flyfishing for trout. Salmon fishing was also high on his list.

  Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Merlin; children, Mark (Leslie) of San Francisco, California, Jeffrey (Helene) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael Repp (Diane) of Petaluma, California, and Robert Repp (Veronica) of Arlington, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five nieces; one nephew; and many cousins in Norway.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald; and a sister, Kathleen Spitaleri.
