Mary Catherine Jensen

  Mary Catherine Jensen, 85, of Grants Pass died June 4, 2009, at a local adult foster care home.

  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paschal Ezurike presiding. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapel-valley.com.

  One of 13 children, she was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Baldwin Township (Pittsburgh), Pa., to William J. and Hilda M. Marcus. After high school, she worked for Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing in Pittsburgh. She served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945.

  While stationed in Norman, Okla., on Aug. 19, 1944, she married William Norman Jensen, who died Feb. 3, 2007. They moved to Grants Pass in 1964 from Santa Ana, Calif. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Hugo.

  She worked for Oregon Technical Products and was co-owner of Ponderosa Realty.

  She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, the Rose Society, the Hugo Ladies Club and the Josephine County Homebuilders Association. She enjoyed flowers, especially roses. She also enjoyed cooking and baking apple pies.

  Survivors include a daughter, Norma A. Martin of Snohomish, Wash.; a son, John G. Jensen of Grants Pass; four sisters, Leona Schrumpf of Indiana, Veronica Suchan of California, Judy Steel of Pennsylvania, and Betty McCarthy of California; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

  Two sons, William N. Jensen Jr. and Robert M. Jensen, died before her.
