Juan Manuel Garcia-Schill

  Lance Cpl. Juan Manuel Garcia-Schill, 20, of Grants Pass died July 1, 2007, as a result of injuries sustained from a roadside bomb while serving in the Marine Corps in Iraq.

  Visitation will be from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Sunday at Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Klamath Falls. A celebration of his life with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Eternal Hills Chapel. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens.

  He was born April 8, 1987, in Klamath Falls to Manuel Garcia and Brenda Schill. When he was young, his parents separated and he moved to Madras with his father. When he was 11 years old, he moved to Grants Pass, where he attended junior high school and Grants Pass High School. While he was in junior high school, he earned his black belt in tae kwon do. He played football in high school. From his eighth grade to 10th grade years, he volunteered with an after-school program in which he taught children Spanish and how to play soccer. After graduation, he attended one term of college before joining the Marine Corps. He served from Jan. 23, 2006, until being killed in action on July 1.

  He enjoyed helping children and had plans to be an elementary school teacher after his military service. He also enjoyed tae kwon do and the Japanese culture. He was proud of his Mexican heritage and had traveled to Mexico several times.

  Survivors include his father, Manuel Garcia of Grants Pass; his mother, Brenda Ochoa of Chiloquin; a brother, Esteban Garcia-Schill of Grants Pass; a sister, Sandra Garcia-Schill of Chiloquin; a stepbrother, Joey Ochoa of Chiloquin; a stepsister, Victoria Ochoa of Chiloquin; and his grandparents, Ines Garcia-Placsencia of Mexico, Richard and Bev Schill of Klamath Falls, and Pamela Speaker of Klamath Falls.
