Albert 'Dean' Chanley

  Albert 'Dean' Chanley, 70, of Grants Pass died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Laurel Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

  Private family services will be held. Southern Oregon Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

  He was born March 28, 1937, in Grants Pass to Albert and Edna (Roberts) Chanley. He attended Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, Calif. After his training at Parks Air Force Base, he served in the Air Force with the 47th Bomb Wing. From 1955 to 1957, he was stationed at Sculthorpe Air Force Base in England. After his discharge he returned to Bakersfield.

  On Aug. 10, 1957, in Maldon, Essex, England, he married Poppy Elizabeth Clark. They divorced in 1970. He worked for Chanley Brothers Trucking in Bakersfield. He also worked for his parents at Superior Gypsum Company in Carissa Plains, Calif. In 1969, he moved from Paso Robles, Calif., to Grants Pass, where he worked for School District 7 as a bus mechanic and for Caveman Camper.

  He enjoyed looking at wildflowers in the woods, and sitting on the Robertson Bridge boat landing to watch the jet boats. He also enjoyed rock hounding, mechanics and building stuff.

  Survivors include his companion, Mary Silver of Grants Pass; two daughters, Sharon M. DeLay of Grants Pass, and Mary Ann Ford of Sand Point, Idaho; two sons, Patrick J. Chanley of Yachats, and Melvin Dean Chanley of Grants Pass; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

  A son, Albert L. Chanley, died before him.
