Whiskey Creek Cabin (Rogue River Trail)

Location: Near Merlin, Ore.

Distance: 7 miles round-trip

Difficulty: moderate

Camping: Yes at Whiskey Creek Camp and Big Slide Camp, on the other side of the creek

Quick hit: This popular trail along the Rogue River Trail east begins at Grave Creek and continues to the historic Whiskey Creek Cabin. The cabin is the oldest known mining cabin, still standing, in the remote lower Rogue River canyon.

Directions: From Grants Pass, take Interstate 5 north for 3.1 miles to Merlin exit 61. After the exit, turn left onto Merlin Road and continue west on Merlin-Galice Road for about 22 miles until you reach Grave Creek Bridge. To find the trailhead, cross bridge and turn left into parking area and large trailhead.
