Vulcan Lake (Kalmiopsis Wilderness/near Brookings)

Difficulty: easy/moderate

Quick hit: This lake takes some work to drive to from Grants Pass, considering you have to head all the way around to Brookings, but the lake itself is one of the most beautiful in the Kalmisopsis Wilderness. The trail goes over a small point but is not difficult, and heads to the lake where there are campsites. From the lake, there are trails that lead to a number of different places in the wilderness.

Directions: From Brookings, Ore. take North Chetco River Road 15 miles. After crossing a bridge, turn right onto Road 1909. Follow Road 1909 15 miles to end of the road and trailhead.
