TENT — Grand Mesa 2 by Kelty

Rating (Out of 5): 4.5

Price: $100 to $150

Review: The question of which tent to use backpacking is an important question, obviously. Being the poor journalist that I am, when I looked into buying a backpacking tent I went for price first, quality second.

Luckily, I stumbled upon buying the Grand Mesa 2 by Kelty.

It has served me well for a number of reasons.

First off, it’s very light, weighing just four pounds and two ounces. Second, it’s cheap. I found a bunch online for between $100 and $150, and I bought mine for $135. I’ve used it in every type of weather — it’s nice and breathable in the summer, and I’ve even used it in the winter multiple times even though that’s not what it’s designed for.

Third, there’s just enough room for two people. Those who make a number of backpacking trips solo should consider using a bivy sack, but if you camp with your significant other enough — or with a buddy that you feel realllly comfortable with — then the Grand Mesa 2 is a great option.

Overall, for the price, value, weight and simplicity, I’d highly recommend it.
