Wet weather continues to frustrate anglers on the Rogue (Fishing reports)The middle Rogue River continues to frustrate anglers, as the river stayed above 7,000 cubic feet per second. It peaked around 12,000 cfs on Tuesday, and was at 9,000 on Thursday night."Looking at the Rogue, it's just like a roller coaster up and down all week long," fishing guide Troy Whitaker said. "Basically, there's no fishing on the Rogue again."Whitaker, of U-Save Gas and Tackle, said anglers who have to get out on the river might want to try running a side planer with dark plugs. They should stick near the banks, as the steelhead will try to stay out of the stronger currents located near the middle of the river."The only good thing about this is it will push up the (spring chinook)," Whitaker said. "We should see them real soon."Steelhead fishing on the Applegate River ends at the end of the month. For the next week, Whitaker said heavier Cleos — 3/4 ounce — or packing weight with a night crawler might be the best bet for what is traditionally the peak fishing time on the river.Whitaker said the Steelheaders went to Lost Creek Reservoir this week and put together some good stringers, including some longer than 18 inches. With Lake Selmac having been stocked with trout four times since February, the bass bite should pick up soon."When they dump trout this time of year, the bass start feeding," Whitaker said.He said imitation trout lures or large Senkos should work well. For trout fishing, a nightcrawler and a bobber or rainbow PowerBait in either garlic or salmon egg flavors should be most effective.• APPLEGATE RESERVOIR. Trout fishing has been fair to good. Anglers have been catching trout up to 16 inches. Trout anglers will want to try trolling, and a good bet will be a wedding ring/bait combination. One angler reported a flasher tipped with a worm produced good results during midday hours. Fishing with bait from shore in the upper reservoir should also produce. The lake is currently filling and all boat ramps are accessible.• GALESVILLE RESERVOIR. Galesville has been stocked twice in 2017 with legal-size trout. In addition to trout, the reservoir has been stocked with coho smolts and there have been reports of them being caught in good numbers on the lake. Many people mistakenly think these fish are kokanee. The coho smolts should be adipose fin-clipped, and please remember to release the ones less than 8-inches long.In Galesville Reservoir, all landlocked salmon are considered trout and are part of the five-per-day trout limit, with only one trout over 20-inches long allowed for harvest.• ILLINOIS RIVER. Wild steelhead more than 24 inches long may be harvested in the Illinois between Klondike Creek and Pomeroy Dam (located near Cave Junction); one per day and five per year. Fishing is restricted to artificial flies and lures. The Illinois is currently rising and more rain will probably muddy it up this week. Fish were caught around Kerby last week before the rain. The Illinois will close to fishing March 31.• REINHART POND. Reinhardt will be stocked with 300 legal-sized trout this week and was stocked with 300 legal-sized rainbow three weeks ago and 300 legal-sized trout a month ago. Fishing should continue to be good. Fishing for warm-water species will be slow with the cooler weather.
