Wildfire estimated at 100 acres burning west of Shady Cove

Crews were hammering the Evans Creek Road Fire with air tankers, helicopters and ground firefighters as of 4:45 p.m. Friday.

Estimated at 75 to 100 acres, the fire near the 18000 block of East Evans Creek Road is burning in steep terrain in a remote area north of Sams Valley and west of Shady Cove. Crews are also facing extreme heat, low humidity and at least one spot fire, according to a late afternoon update by the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was giving door-to-door evacuation notifications to residents in the immediate area as of Friday afternoon.

Multiple evacuation alerts were in place as of late Friday afternoon.

The East Evans Creek Road and Antioch Road area were under a “Level 2: Be Set” to evacuate alert. An area to the southwest was under a “Level 1: Be Ready” alert as of about 5 p.m. Friday.
